Dear HEART, NOT TOO often work overtime

Dear HEART, NOT TOO often work overtime

London, hardworking always worked countless hours, overtime quota was even considered as a separate provision. Yet too often work overtime also has risks, the increased risk of heart attack due to stress unconscious. As fit-bugarnya human body and mind, if given the chance to break it will experience physical or psychological stress. Various studies have shown, cortisol or stress is a trigger for a heart attack.

Recent research conducted at the University College London revealed that employees who every day work more than 11 hours are more prone to heart attacks. The risk is about 67 percent higher than employees working 7-8 hours / day.

The conclusion was obtained after the researchers conducted observations of 7,000 civil servants in London. In observations made over the past 11 years, 192 people suffered heart attacks and mostly due to work more than 11 hours / day. Body mass index (BMI), age, blood pressure and cholesterol levels do affect the risk of heart attack. But the stress of working overtime can increase the risk of 5 percent and is expected to trigger a heart attack in 6000 people / year worldwide.

"These findings still need further study to be sure, but this could be a warning for those who often work overtime, especially those who already have other risk factors," said Professor Mika Kivimaki, who led the study, as quoted by Reuters on Tuesday (5/4 / 2011). Just like in Indonesia, most of the companies in the UK to hire employees for 7-8 hours / day. When employees are hired more than 11 hours / day, consciously or unconsciously aka the stress hormone cortisol levels can rise and be a risk factor of heart attack.
