Your brain controls all
the functions of your body. The brain is the center of the
whole body. If
your brain is healthy, it will encourage the health of your body and your mental
health support. Conversely,
if your brain is interrupted, then your body and your mental health can be
disrupted.
If
your heart or your lungs stop working for a few minutes, you can still survive.
But
if your brain stopped working for a second, then your body is dead. That
is why the brain known as the most important organ of the entire organ in the
human body.
In
addition, most importantly, the brain is also the most complex organ.
Discusses
the anatomy and function of the brain in detail could take days. Therefore
here we will discuss the anatomy and function of the brain in outline only just
make you understand the parts and functions of your own
brain.
As
shown in the figure above, the brain is divided into four sections namely:
Cerebrum (Great
Brain)
The cerebellum (small
brain)
Brainstem (Brain
Stem)
Limbic
System (limbic system)
1.
Cerebrum
The
cerebrum is the largest part of the human brain which is also known as the
Cerebral Cortex, forebrain or brain Home. The
cerebrum is the part of the brain that distinguishes humans from animals.
The
cerebrum makes man capable of thinking, analysis, logic, language,
consciousness, planning, memory and visual abilities. Intelligence
quotient or IQ is also determined by the quality of this
section.
The cerebrum
is divided into 4 (four) sections called lobes. Sections
called lobes prominent gyrus and the curve that resembles a moat called the
sulcus. The
four lobes are respectively: Frontal Lobe, Parietal lobe, occipital lobe and
Temporal lobe.
Frontal
lobe is a lobe of an existing part dipaling front of the Great Brain.
Lobe
is associated with the ability to make excuses, range of movement, cognition,
planning, problem solving, giving judgment, creativity, sense of control,
control of sexual behavior and language skills in general.
Parietal
lobes are in the middle, feeling associated with processes such as pressure
sensors, touch and pain.
Temporal
lobe is at the bottom associated with hearing ability, interpretation and
language information in the form of sound.
The
occipital lobe at the rear, related to visual stimuli that allow humans are able
to interpret the object captured by the retina of the eye.
Besides
divided into 4 lobes,
cerebrum (the brain) can
also be divided into two
hemispheres, the right hemisphere and the
left hemisphere. The two halves are connected by cables nerves underneath. In general, the
right hemisphere controls
the left side of the
body, and the
left hemisphere controls
the right side of the
body. The
right brain is involved
in creativity and artistic ability. While
the left brain for logic and rational thinking. Regarding the function of the Right Brain and Left Brain we have discussed on a
separate page.
2. The cerebellum
Small
brain or cerebellum is located at the back of the head, near the upper end of
the neck. The
cerebellum controls many automatic functions of the brain, such as: set the
attitude or posture, balance control, muscle coordination and body movement.
Small
brains also store and carry out a series of automatic movements are studied as
driving movement, hand gestures while writing, movement and so lock the
door.
In
case of minor injury to the brain, can cause disturbances in attitudes and
coordination of muscle movements. The
movement became uncoordinated, for example, the person is not able to put food
in your mouth or incapable of buttoning clothes.
3. Brainstem
Brainstem
(brainstem) are inside the skull or head cavity and extending to the base of the
spine or spinal cord. The
brain regulates basic human functions, including breathing, heart rate, body
temperature, regulate digestion, and is the source of man's basic instinct is
fight or flight (fight or flight) when approaching danger.
The
brain stem is also found in animals such as lizards and crocodiles. Therefore,
the brain stem is often also called the reptilian brain. Regulate
reptilian brain "territorial feelings" as a primitive instinct. For
example, you will feel uncomfortable or threatened when people you do not know
too close to you.
The
brain stem consists of three parts, namely:
Mesencephalon
or Central Brain (also called Mid Brain) is the top of the brain stem that
connects the Brain Great and Little Brain. Midbrain
control of the response function in terms of vision, eye movements, enlarged
pupils, regulate body movement and hearing.
Medulla
oblongata is the starting point of the spinal cord from the body toward the left
side of the flange, and vice versa. Medulla
controls automatic function is the brain, such as heart rate, blood circulation,
respiration, and digestion.
Pons
is a relay station that sends data to the center along with the reticular
formation of the brain. Pons
that determines whether we are awake or asleep.
Note:
certain groups claim that Middle brain associated with supernatural abilities
such as seeing with your eyes closed. The
claim was disputed by scientists and doctors nervous because not proven and
there is no scientific basis.
The limbic system is located in the center of the brain, brain stem wraps like a shirt collar. Limbic comes from the Latin meaning collar. The brain
is also owned by the same mammal that is often called the mammalian brain. Limbic components such as the hypothalamus, thalamus, amygdala, and limbic cortex hipocampus. The limbic system produces feelings functioning, regulate hormone production, maintaining homeostasis, thirst, hunger, sex drive, pleasure centers, metabolism and long-term memory.
The most important part of the limbic system is the hypothalamus that one of its functions is to decide which parts need attention and which are not. For example, you pay more attention to your own children compared with children who do not know. Why? Because
you have a
strong emotional
connection with your
child. So also, when you hate
someone, you actually
often notice or alert. This happens because you have an emotional connection with the person you hate.
4. limbic System
The limbic system stores a lot of information that are untouched by the senses. He is commonly referred to as the emotional brain or the abode of love and honesty. Carl Gustav Jung called the "Subconscious" or the collective unconscious, manifested in the behavior of both like helping other people and sincere behavior. LeDoux termed the limbic system is the seat of all human passions, where bermuaranya love, respect and honesty.
